Job Description
We currently have an opening for an Equipment Engineer within our LED Chips group. This position will be stationed at our headquarters facility in Raleigh/Durham, NC. SUMMARY: The engineer chosen for this position will be a member of Cree’s LED Equipment Development Team. This team works on a variety of projects that include all phases of equipment specification, procurement, installation, and modification of existing equipment to improve availability and process capability. This individual will be responsible for developing and documenting equipment hardware improvements as well as defining best known methods for a wide variety of toolsets. Equipment engineers interact directly with other Cree teams including the following: R&D and manufacturing process engineering, mechanical design and assembly, facilities, and purchasing. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Equipment Engineer will be responsible for identifying and/or developing, purchasing, installation, and hand-off of new equipment according to established procedures. The candidate will work with engineering and R&D teams to create and maintain procedures and training materials The candidate will work with Process Engineering, Manufacturing, and Management to improve tool availability, process/product yield, and drive scrap and maintenance cost reductions. The candidate will mentor maintenance technician staff on troubleshooting techniques and provide support during tool issue escalations. The candidate will drive innovation and continuous improvement while providing excellent communication within the group and between the different organizations that are affected by equipment performance in the factory.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with at least 3 years of equipment experience Background in equipment engineering with experience in one or more of the following: vacuum systems, electro-mechanical systems and robotics, high purity gas distribution, and control systems. Willing and able to work a flexible schedule as needed to support critical tool issues in a 24X7 manufacturing environment Equipment troubleshooting skills and the ability to rapidly learn new equipment toolsets Ability to identify equipment improvements, manage change, and implement solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. US Citizen or Green Card holder Have a ’whatever it takes’ attitude.
